“The Tarot Trumps”

The impact of inspiration on intuition, resulting in illumination and liberation — the sword striking off the fetters of habit and materialism, Perseus rescuing Andromeda from the Dragon of fear and the waters of Stagnation. (Note: Incidentally note that this is the design of the Order card. Andromeda is shown manacled to a rock, the dragon rising from the waters at her feet. Perseus is depicted flying through the air to her assistance, with unsheathed sword. The design is wholly different from that of the Waite pack. — I.R.)
The colours are orange, violet, purplish grey and pearl grey. The flashing colour of orange gives deep vivid blue while the flashing colour for violet is golden yellow. The flashing colours may always be introduced if they bring out the essential colour meaning more clearly. In practise this card usually signifies sympathetic understanding.

The sun shines in the zenith, and beneath is a great winged figure with arms extended, pouring down influences. In the foreground are two human figures, male and female, unveiled before each other, as if Adam and Eve when they first occupied the paradise of the earthly body. Behind the man is the Tree of Life, bearing twelve fruits, and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is behind the woman; the serpent is twining round it. The figures suggest youth, virginity, innocence and love before it is contaminated by gross material desire. This is in all simplicity the card of human love, here exhibited as part of the way, the truth and the life. It replaces, by recourse to first principles, the old card of marriage, which I have described previously, and the later follies which depicted man between vice and virtue. In a very high sense, the card is a mystery of the Covenant and Sabbath.

The suggestion in respect of the woman is that she signifies that attraction towards the sensitive life which carries within it the idea of the Fall of Man, but she is rather the working of a Secret Law of Providence than a willing and conscious temptress. It is through her imputed lapse that man shall arise ultimately, and only by her can he complete himself. The card is therefore in its way another intimation concerning the great mystery of womanhood. The old meanings fall to pieces of necessity with the old pictures, but even as interpretations of the latter, some of them were of the order of commonplace and others were false in symbolism.

岡村隆史 失言と結婚

NHK「チコちゃんに叱られる！」でも活躍中のお笑い芸人ナインティナインの岡村隆史がコロナ禍の最中に ラジオで女性蔑視的な失言をした のは、2020 年 4 月 23 日のことだった。 岡村さんは四月二十三日深夜の生放送で、「コロナが終息したら絶対面白いことあるんですよ。美人さんがお嬢（風俗嬢）やります。短時間でお金を稼がないと苦しいですから」などと発言。これに対し「性的搾取を待ちわびている」「女性蔑視だ」などと批判が集中した。 あまりニュースに関心のない私は 7 月 25 日にその記事がふと目に止まり興味が湧いて、この事件のシチュエーションを表すカードは何かと思い 1 枚引いたところ 杖の 4 だった。 杖の 4 は仕事もプライベートも充実している様を表している。ひと仕事をこなした後には、めでたいゴールで親しい人々と合流して存分に休暇を楽しむという感じである。 「ただし彼の場合、逆位置だったため（仕事中の）太鼓橋の上でコケてしまった。充実した気分が裏目に出て一段とハイになり、あのような軽はずみなことを口走ってしまった」──と、当時（2020-07-25）は解釈した。 しかしその後 10 月 22 日に「同じラジオ放送で岡村隆史が結婚を発表した」というニュースを耳にした。「ああ、本当はめでたいゴール（杖の 4）が待っていたということを意味するカードだったのか」と今にして言える。 すなわち、逆位置は、失言事件によって本来予定されていた結婚にケチがつき、一時的に延期等になってしまったようなことを意味していたのだろう。 起きた出来事に対して質問しただけだからと、カードの告げる未来にまで意識を広げなかったという反省事例に。

東京都知事選（2020 年）

今度（7/5）の都知事選挙の投票を決めるためにタロットを引きました。32 人の候補者の中で、めぼしいカードが出たのは、小池百合子氏と山本太郎氏だけでした（他の候補は逆位置などで、これといったカードは出ませんでした）。 小池さんは「 恋人たち 」正位置、山本さんは「 カップの３ 」正位置。 きっと小池さんが圧勝するのだと思います。コロナウィルス感染拡大の最中で「時代が選んだ都知事」という言い方がピッタリかも知れません。 一方の山本さんは、当選しないかもしれませんが、とてもたくさんの人たちから支持され、小池さんに次ぐ投票数を獲得するのだと思います。そして、思ってもみなかった以上の支持者がいることを発見し、山本さんにとっては大きな収穫で喜ばしく悔いのない結果となるのだと思います。

吉田沙保里 - 霊長類最強女子の婚活事情

男女通じて史上最多となる世界選手権 10 連覇及び世界大会（五輪＋世界選手権）13 大会連続優勝を達成し、かつて「霊長類最強女子」と呼ばれた、レスリングの元五輪女王でタレントの吉田沙保里（38歳）。今、彼女は ずっと婚活をしている そうだ。これについて出たのは 剣の A の正位置 。 雲 から出た手が 剣 を突き立て、上にオリーブとシュロの葉がかかった 王冠 を掲げている。地上にはノアの洪水伝説で何もかもが一掃された後のような景色が広がっている。 さすがレスリングの元女王と言うしかないような、自ら力を召喚させる凄まじいパワーの絵が堂々と正位置で出でおり、彼女にとっては婚活もレスリングと同じ乗りなのかも知れない──という第一印象を受けた。 「私は（相手を）好きになりたいんですよ、自分が。好きになられると引いちゃうんですよ」と本人も語っているように、彼女にとって受け身は有り得ず、まさに栄冠（相手）を勝ち取るぞというアグレッシブな姿勢がもろに出ており、話は逸れてしまうが五輪メダルを獲得するということが、どれほど凄まじいパワーを自らに召喚することなのかが想像されてくる。 また注目なのは「好きになられると引いちゃうんですよ」と語っているところにもある。大洪水のような圧倒的なパワーで何もかも押し流し切るのが彼女の醍醐味であり、逆に受ける側に回ることは苦手なのかも知れない。 なお、 出川哲朗の枕営業騒動 でも剣の A が逆位置で出ているが、今回の事例は婚活でしかも正位置で出ており、出川の事例のような危機感に満ちたシチュエーション解釈になる場合との良い比較になるかも知れない。 また、いろいろ言い方はあるようだが英語で婚活を、marriage hunting、spouse hunting など「ハンティング」を使うようであり、これも剣の A のイメージと通じるものがあり興味深い。
