A winged kingly figure seated in a chariot drawn by a bull. He bears as a crest the symbol of the head of a winged bull. Beneath the chariot is land with many flowers. In one hand he bears an orb of gold held downwards, and in the other a sceptre surmounted by an orb and cross.
Increase of matter, increase of good and evil, solidifies, practically applies things, steady, reliable. If ill-dignified, animal, material, stupid. In either slow to anger, but furious if roused. Rules from 20° Aries to 20° of Taurus.

The figure calls for no special description the face is rather dark, suggesting also courage, but somewhat lethargic in tendency. The bull's head should be noted as a recurrent symbol on the throne. The sign of this suit is represented throughout as engraved or blazoned with the pentagram, typifying the correspondence of the four elements in human nature (= coin) and that by which they may be governed (= pentacle). In many old Tarot packs this suit stood for current coin, money, deniers. I have not invented the substitution of pentacles and I have no special cause to sustain in respect of the alternative. But the consensus of divinatory meanings is on the side of some change, because the cards (of Pentacles) do not happen to deal especially with questions of money.

古代ローマの「中空十二面体」の謎

カラパイア不思議と謎の大冒険このオブジェクトは西暦 2～4 世紀のものとされており、大きさは 4cm～11cm、重さは 35～580g までさまざまだそうです。中央ヨーロッパ（ベルギー、クロアチア、フランス、ドイツ、イギリス、ハンガリー、ルクセンブルグ、オランダ、スイスなど）で 100 個以上見つかっているものの、これは一体何なのかその起源も用途も今のところ謎だそうです。そこで、一体何なのかタロットを引いてみたところ、次のような絵が展開されました。これは当時の裕福な人々の間で、結婚や婚約交渉の為に使われていたのではないかと思われます。品物としては、アクセサリースタンドなのではないかと。これを贈った後に、指輪、かんざし、ネックレスなど、アクセサリーを意中の人に贈り続け、交渉を重ねて行く様子が浮かび上がってきます。「大道芸人」と「恋人」が逆位置なので、政略婚的な要素も強い感じがしますが、ドス黒い貪欲な雰囲気はあまりなく、粋でノリが良い雰囲気が漂っています。

女性に自殺を思いとどまらせたセラピードッグ

イギリス南西部デボン州で高速道路の上の橋から飛び降り自殺を図ろうとしている女性を地元消防署のセラピードッグが思いとどまらせたという。この時の犬と女性の関係について引いてみたところ、犬は最後の審判の逆位置、女性は盃の 8 の逆位置だった。最後の審判それ自体には「最終結果」という意味があるが、逆位置の場合には、そのような思い切った最終決断に踏み切れない、「弱さ」「意気地の無さ」を示す。つまり、この事件のセラピー犬のディグビーは、女性にとって、自殺という発作的で不可逆的な行為を踏み止まらせるような、か弱い、いたいけな存在としてそこに登場したのであろう。彼女よりも、強く生きている警察官や消防隊員たちからのいわゆる“上から目線”の説得よりも、彼女が守ってあげる立場の存在である犬のディグビーの方が、彼女に生きる気力を与えることになったのである。そして、盃の 8 だが、これも本来は失望を示すのだが、逆位置となると反対に「大いなる喜び・幸せ」などを示すのである。まさしく、追い詰められた中でのディグビーとの邂逅が、女性に生きる喜びを思い起こさせたであろうことは、想像に待たない。
